Introduction: My hobby is writing (dissertation) songs and short poems.
Research topics: I studied Dutch Language and Literature at Utrecht University and the University of Amsterdam. My dissertation was about the change of the free relative pronoun in Dutch, from 1300 until 1980. My mixed background has helped me to become an expert on mixed methods: As a former science pupil, I love numbers; as a trained linguist, I love texts, language, and writing, as a social science researcher, I am fascinated by methodology. |
Current research interest: My current research interests are mixed methods research design and the foundations of mixed methods research. My research ambition for the coming years is to make mixed methods more usable to scholars and students in two ways: (1) by replacing the leading role of a data-driven and static definition of mixed methods research as “a combination of quantitative and qualitative data collection and data analysis that are meaningfully connected” by a conceptual and emergent definition of “using different methods to develop research questions that build on each other“; and (2) by developing an app for designing mixed methods research that implements this conceptual and emergent definition. |
