ICLON Leiden University
Introduction: Hello everyone, I have been living in Amsterdam for about ten years, in the company of my girlfriend and our two cats. I have an interest in chess, though I’m not very good yet, I’m always open for a match! Beyond that, I like to stay active by playing padel. I also like to be in nature; you can often find me in peaceful places like the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen or Uitdam. These hobbies form a good balance with my research work. I look forward to connecting with you and learning more about your interests and research projects. |
Research topics: My primary research interest lies in teacher professional development and decision-making within higher education. I recently submitted my dissertation, titled “Understanding Teacher Agency in Universities: Why and How Lecturers Shape and Navigate University Teaching Practices,” for assessment. In my current postdoc, I’m focusing on the well-being of university lecturers. I studied Educational Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. During my master’s and PhD, I had research visits to the University of Helsinki and the University of Stirling. |
Current research interest: In addition to my current project on lecturer well-being, I’m writing several research proposals. Hopefully one will be awarded this year. |
Tips & tricks: The slogan of my dissertation – as a metaphor for teacher agency – is “It is the set of the sails, not [just] the direction of the wind, that determines which way we will go.” That is also what I want to give as advice to everyone. Use your agency to navigate your project in the most meaningful direction. |
